By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • define the meaning of 'equality' and 'diversity'
  • understand the meanings of 'prejudice', 'direct discrimination' and 'indirect discrimination'
  • identify the 9 protected characteristics that the equality legislation covers.

2. HANDLING HARASSMENT

By the end of this module you will be able to:

  • identify inappropriate behaviour in the workplace
  • define what constitutes harassment
  • describe the effects of inappropriate behaviour
  • identify the reasons why a person may engage in harassment
  • know how to respond to inappropriate behaviour

3. PROVIDING AN INCLUSIVE SERVICE

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • appreciate the importance of accurately identifying a customer's need
  • identify the different types of barriers that customers may face to accessing your service
  • understand your role in helping customers to overcome barriers they face
  • explain what an equalities approach to customer care is
  • describe how equalities fit with the 3 stages of providing an effective customer service.

4. EQUALITY IN ACTION

By the end of this module you will be able to:

  • identify the benefits of equality
  • summarise how to promote diversity in your role
  • access relevant information and expertise
